Ramadan 2020: Ramadan will start on Friday, April, 24 the UAE’s moon-sighting committee announced late on Thursday.
The holy month of fasting observed Muslims around the world last for 29 or 30 days. It was the month in which the Holy Quran was revealed to Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) on the right of Laytal Al-Qadar, one of the last ten nights of Ramadan. It depends on the lunar cycle as well as on the Hijri or Islamic calendar. It is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.
April 23 is 30th of Sha’ban which is the last day of the Islamic month right before Ramadan. During Ramadan, adult Muslims fast from dawn to dusk. The fast starts after a light meal before dawn call “Seheri” while the meal ending the fast is called “Iftar”.
In this month we greet people by saying “Ramadin Kareem” it means “Happy Ramadan”Adults Muslims are required to do fasting.
Who has not fast during Ramadan?
Those, who are ill elderly, diabetic, pregnant, menstruating, or breastfeeding are not required to fast. Those who travel or are unwell during the period of Ramadan may fast on different days at a later point. Children are not required to fast unless they have reached puberty.
What can You not do during Ramadan?
In addition to abstaining from eating, drinking, and smoking. Muslims also refrain from sexual relations as well as sinful speech and behavior.
